This online course lasts for approximately two months. The weeks correspond with the units.  Each unit may have up to three discussion topics, action assignments, or journal activities.

Week One (Unit 1):  Introduction.

Action Assignment 1.1:    Order your textbook and begin reading it ASAP.  Familiarize yourself with the content of the course.  View the Links and begin reviewing national and state standards of your choice.  Contribute to the discussion of the weekly topics.

 Discussion Question 1.1:   Reflect on your experience in the Arts Infused Teaching and Learning Workshop held August 27-28, 2003.  Please provide feedback and share with your classmates.

Journal Question 1.1:   How would you like to be remembered as a professional educator?  What do you hope people will say about you?   

Week Two (Unit 2):    Goals.

Action Assignment 2.1:    Continue reading your textbook.  Review Module 2 under Content. Familiarize yourself with other Arts Infused programs via a brief Internet search.  Share your thoughts and responses to the text and your research in the Discussion.

Action Assignment 2.2:    Write a well developed paragraph summarizing your Action Plan idea in the form of a Goal Statement and submit it to the Discussion group.  Read and comment on your classmates' Action Plan Goal Statements.  Refine your goal statement post discussion.

Discussion Question 2.1:    Post your Action Plan Goal Statement.

Journal Assignment 2.1:    In paragraph form: What is your Teaching Philosophy? What is your Teaching Methodology? (Optional posting.)

Week 3 (Unit 3):   Collaboration.

Continue reading your text.  Weeks 4 and 5 Discussion topics will address the text.

Action Assignment 3.1:      Identify and contact one classroom teacher and one administrator who will serve as development team members for your Action Plan.

You and your identified classroom teacher need to discuss and decide upon a Unit or Topic that one or both of you will cover this academic year.  The classroom teacher must inform you about which curriculum standards he / she addresses within his / her Unit or Topic delivery.  Your assignment is to design an arts infused learning activity that addresses the classroom teacher's curriculum content standards (i.e.: art and science, art and math, etc.). This can be something you do on your own or with your classmates.  Post your learning activity for your classmates.  Comment and/or provide feedback to your classmates' activities.

Discussion Question 3.1:    How familiar are you with Multiple Intelligences?  What is your professional opinion concerning the validity and effectiveness of Howard Gardner's theory of Multiple Intelligences and the concept of the seven entry points?  Please refer to Module 3 under the Content page.  Please use examples to illustrate your position.  Post your answer and respond to your classmates.

Journal Assignment 3.1:    If you could interview anyone from any time period, who would you choose and what questions would you ask him or her?

Week 4 (Unit 4):    Research.

Action Assignment 4.1:    Begin organizing your Action Plan research.  You will be provided with an Action Plan Template to help organize your ideas, or you may use TaskSteam to design your Lessons and Rubrics for your Action Plan. 

Action Assignment 4.2:    Contact the administrator you have chosen as a consultant for your project.  Explain your Action Plan idea and goals and discuss the dimensions of its implementation.  Share your findings with your classmates.

Discussion Question 4.1:    Provide an overview of the meeting with your target administrator.  What did you learn?  What problems do you foresee?  Are there issues you had not considered and how do you plan to address them?  Provide feedback and responses to your classmates' postings.

Journal Assignment 4.1:    Document your discussion with your target administrator.

Journal Assignment 4.2:    Dedicate a page to your passions.  At the top of it write "My Passions" and go from there.

Week 5 (Unit 5):    Writing.

Action Assignment 5.1:    Review Module 5 under Content.  Work on your Action Plan. Remember to incorporate the readings into your Plan.  What other programs or projects have attempted similar objectives?  How is yours different or the same?  Be equipped with a specific target set of standards from at least two disciplines including the visual or performing arts.  Make your Action Plan goals achievable and worth achieving.  Consider how you are going to assess the effectiveness of the implementation of your Action Plan.  Post questions and comments for classmates.  Work together.  Support each other. 

Discussion Question 5.1:    What other programs are Arts Infused?  What did you find through your Internet search?  Do you think that the Arts Infused label is an appropriate label with which to be identified?  Share your findings and thoughts with the group.

Journal Assignment 5.1:    Who were your favorite teachers and why do you think they made such a lasting impression on you? (You could write a short thank you letter in your journal to that teacher.)

Week 6 (Unit 6):   Drafts.   

Action Assignment 6.1:    Your Action Plan Draft is due for your classmates to review (does not have to be in finished form).  Post your Action Plan Draft as an attachment.  Please review and respond to at least two other Drafts. 

Action Assignment 6.2:    Specify a Test Group for your Learning Activity.  Do a trial run.  Incorporate your findings into your Action Plan.

Discussion Question 6.1:    What are the five most important resources you are using to develop your Action Plan and why have you chosen them?

Week 7 (Unit 7):     Effective Planning.

Action Assignment 7.1:    Implementing your Action Plan will take precise planning.  Review your Plan and make a detailed list of steps to be completed according to time limitations.  Share this with your target classroom teacher and administrator.  Is your timeline realistic? Post your timeline in the Discussion.

Discussion Question 7.1:    Reflect on your goals set forth during Week 2.  Did you achieve your goals?  Were other goals achieved?  Revise and post for your classmates.

Journal Assignment 7.1: Review and revise your teaching philosophy and add to this your teaching methodology in paragraph form.

Week 8 (Unit 8):    Action Plan Due.

Action Assignment 8.1:    Action Plan Due.  Email the final draft of your Action Plan to your instructor via email.  

Action Assignment 8.2:    After you have submitted your final Action Plan, fill out the evaluation forms for the course, facilitator, and self. 

Week 9 (Unit 9):     Closing.

Follow-up & Evaluations.  Grades will be posted next week.
