Example 2Since
I teach music my action plan is geared toward integrating other subjects
with music. SCULPTURE
CARDS The
sculpture cards have many interesting shapes and emotions connected with
them. I could use them in my class to match the sculpture with a
piece of music that "sounds" like
the picture "looks". SPERTUS
KITS The
spertus kits would be very good to bring in some actual Jewish
artifacts/instruments/ music into the room to share culture with the
students. SONG
LITERATURE The
students really like to see songs written out in book form with
illustrations. I use many
different books in my room now but there are many more I’d like to
get. There are many different activities that could flow from the
songbooks. Students could make their own books to illustrate a song they
like. They then could share their books with a younger class. VISUAL PICTURES Instead of using an actual song with very clear images, the students can listen to a piece of music and come up with a “still” picture to create to represent that piece of music to them. Then they could journal about their picture and how it fits the music. MAKE
INSTRUMENTS This
is a project that I’d like my 3rd graders to have this coming year. I
would give them a few criteria that each instrument must have. Then let
them create their own musical instrument at home and bring them in to
share and explain how they work. RAINFOREST There
are many sounds, in nature that man has tried to imitate over the years.
The rainstick is one instrument that was created to imitate a sound in
nature. We can explore why
man wanted to imitate certain sounds in nature and how he accomplished
it. BOOMWHACKERS The
students can use color to create their own songs and then have the class
play them using boomwhackers. Boomwhackers
are different lengths of plastic tubing that are each tuned to a
different note. Each tube is a different color, therefore each not is
represented by a certain color. PICTURES/PAINTINGS The students really like to see historical pictures that tie in with different songs we are working on. I would like to find more sources of these to use in my room. |
